Cologne have issued a strongly-worded statement regarding last nights' crowd trouble at the Emirates as they criticised their ticket allocation and policing at the Emirates.

Kick-off at the Emirates for last night's Europa League tie between Arsenal and the Bundesliga side was delayed by an hour after an estimated 20,000 visiting supporters descended on north London.

Both teams have since been charged by UEFA and Cologne have released a statement over the troubles on their website.

While they acknowledge that the overwhelming majority of their fans "represented the club, the city of Cologne, and German football happily and positively" they apologised for their behaviour.

"Although 1. FC Köln is not responsible for the acts of these so-called disturbers, we ask our English hosts to accept our apology," the statement reads.

The German side also believe it would have "sensible" to have increased their ticket allocation given the demand, criticising the "horrendous" prices on secondary ticket makets.

They go on to claim that the organisers at the Emirates were "not adequately prepared for the task" of the increased demand, insisting that "he security concept and communication seemed inadequate and the police force too small."

Earlier on Friday the German club were hit with four UEFA charges, including one of crowd disturbances and also acts of damage, setting off fireworks and throwing of objects.

Arsenal have been charged after a stairway was blocked.

Arsenal are likely to face a fine of £7,000 while Cologne could be hit with a fine of around £20,000 with further sanctions unlikely. Arsenal are waiting to see if any further charges follow as the kick-off was delayed and also on ticketing and policing of the game.

The Gunners secured a 3-1 win, once the action got under way.
