David Luiz couldn't hide is disappointment when he was substituted during Chelsea's draw with Roma in Wednesday night's Champions League draw - and it seems the fans have his back.
The Brazilian put the Blues ahead with a stunning long-range effort in the 11th minute and the Chelsea faithful thought he was pulling his weight in the midfield.
But when he was taken off just before the hour mark, replaced by Pedro, with Chelsea leading 2-1 Antonio Conte suffered the ire of the fans.
Luiz was visibly annoyed when he saw his number come up on the fourth official's board, reports Kevin Beirne of Football.London.
His goal had been added to after 37 minutes by Eden Hazard before former Manchester City defender Aleksandar Kolarov pegged one back for the Serie A giants.
With the likes of N'Golo Kante and Danny Drinkwater still out injured, Luiz had started in the largely unfamiliar position of central midfield but he handled himself more than admirably.
It wasn't the make-up that Italian Conte wanted, though, and he brought in Spanish winger Pedro.
Cameras appeared to show 30-year-old Luiz cursing at Conte as he made his way for the touchline.
The two shared a tense-looking handshake as Conte slapped the defender's back before he headed straight down the tunnel.
With Luiz no longer on the pitch Edin Dzeko, another former City player, quickly scored twice to give Roma a shock lead.
Although Eden Hazard equalised, fans were furious about the decision to replace Luiz who was apparently carrying an injury.
Many wondered why Cesc Fabregas had not been taken off instead as the Spaniard had struggled in the centre of the park at times.
Chelsea's faithful made their feelings known on Twitter in no uncertain terms.
Should Conte have kept David Luiz on the pitch?
