He was only recently crowned as the world's best footballer for the fifth time, but Cristiano Ronaldo is only the 49th most valuable player on the planet.

That is according to football statisticians CIES, whose latest Football Observatory ratings have seen the Real Madrid stars stock plummet.

The ratings evaluate each elite football player and rank them according to their market value.

Ronaldo recently beat PSG's Neymar and Barcelona's Lionel Messi to the Ballon D'or award, but both players top the list in first and second place respectively.

The world's most expensive player Neymar scored a ranking of 213.0, whilst Messi was fairly close behind with a value of 202.2, whereas Ronaldo scored a measly 80.4.

Tottenham striker Harry Kane makes up the top three with a score of 194.7, and team-mate Dele Alli is not far behind in sixth place with a rating of 171.3.

Other Premier League stars in the top 10 include Manchester City's Kevin De Bruyne (167.8) and Manchester United's Romelu Lukaku (164.8) and Paul Pogba (147.5).

Making up the rest of the top spots are Neymar's PSG team-mate Kylian Mbappe (192.5), Juventus star Paulo Dybala (174.6) and Atletico's Antoine Griezmann (150.2).

Ronaldo should feel somewhat aggrieved to find himself only just scraping in to the top 50, where he is behind Manchester City defender Nicolas Otamendi (84.8), and Manchester United's Anthony Martial (82.0).

Despite being Real Madrid's all-time leading goalscorer, Ronaldo isn't even the highest on the list for his club side, with team-mate Isco ranked ahead of him at number 45.

And there are no other Madrid players in the top 50, regardless of them retaining the Champions League and finishing as La Liga champions last season.

Liverpool's £35 million signing Mohammed Salah (140.5) ranked in 12th, four places ahead of his former teammate Philippe Coutinho (123.0) who recently moved to Barcelona for over £100 million more than the Egyptian did in the summer.

Other notable inclusions on the list include Luis Suarez (128.7) in 14th, Eden Hazard (119.6) in 18th, Robert Lewandowski (107.5) in 21st, Sergio Aguero (98.7) in 28th, and PFA footballer of the year N'golo Kante (87.4) in 40th.

Englishmen Raheem Sterling (138.2), Marcus Rashford (126.8), Eric Dier (93.0) and Kyle Walker (87.1) all made it into the top 50.
