David Moyes has emerged as the bookmakers' favourite to replace Ronald Koeman at Everton.

The Toffees sit third bottom in the Premier League after winning just two of their opening nine league games and the Dutchman has paid the price on Monday afternoon.

A statement from the club read: "Chairman Bill Kenwright, the board of directors and major shareholder Farhad Moshiri would all like to express their gratitude to Ronald for the service he has given to the club over the past 16 months and for guiding the club to seventh place in last season's Premier League campaign."

Moyes, who has been out of work since leaving Sunderland at the end of last season, is the frontrunner to replace Koeman in the hotseat.

The Scot spent more than a decade at the Goodison Park helm earlier in his career before taking over from Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford.

Moyes won 218 of his 518 games in charge of the Toffees, drawing 139 and losing the other 161.

He has been installed as the 3/1 favourite for the post, according to William Hill, with Everton Under-23s manager David Unsworth 9/2 to make the step up.

Carlo Ancelotti and Wales boss Chris Coleman (8/1) are also in the running, while Rafa Benitez, Sean Dyche and Eddie Howe are 10/1 bets.

Duncan Ferguson is 16/1 for the job, while former Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is 20/1 to cross the divide.
