Manchester United are eying up a move for Liverpool star Emre Can and are willing to go 'head to head' with Chelsea for the midfielder, according to reports in Italy.

The 23-year-old has been linked with a move away from Anfield in recent months, with Juventus front-runners for the German's signature.

A £23million deadline day move never materialised and now the Serie A side are unconvinced they will capture their main man in January.

And according to Italian newspaper Tuttosport, The Old Lady face an even tougher task in signing Can as both United and Chelsea have entered the race for his signature.

Can has started the season in fine form for the Reds, scoring twice in three appearances.

The midfielder was a staple in Jurgen Klopp's side last season, appearing in 32 league games as they claimed a fourth place finish.
