Everton will direct Wayne Rooney's fine to the club's Everton in the Community scheme.

Rooney has been fined two weeks' wages after pleading guilty to a drink driving charge on Monday.

And the scheme could receive as much as £300,000 as a result of the incident, reports the Liverpool Echo.

Rooney was banned from driving for two years on Monday and ordered to perform 100 hours of unpaid work as part of a 12-month community order.

Rooney was also ordered to pay £170 when he appeared at Stockport Magistrates' Court.

But in line with club rules the Blues have also imposed their own fine.

Rooney was believed to be on around £300,000 per week at Manchester United but accepted a 50 per cent pay cut to join Everton.

He is believed to have been humble, apologetic and completely accepting of the club's decision to fine him.

The player is also aware of EitC receiving the fine and agreed with the decision.

The funds will be channeled into a range of programmes provided by Everton in the Community, including in the areas of health and well-being, mental health, youth engagement and employment and education.

In a statement issued after the court hearing in Stockport Rooney said: "I want publicly to apologise for my unforgivable lack of judgment in driving while over the legal limit. It was completely wrong.

"I have already said sorry to my family, my manager and chairman and everyone at Everton FC. Now I want to apologise to all the fans and everyone else who has followed and supported me throughout my career.

"Of course I accept the sentence of the court and hope that I can make some amends through my community service."
