Liverpool's goalkeeping woes were there for everyone to see as the Reds were thumped 4-1 by Tottenham on Sunday.

Simon Mignolet, who has been preferred ahead of Loris Karius in the Premier League this season, was at fault for two of Spurs' goals.

There has been much debate over who should take ownership between the sticks at Anfield, with Danny Ward still on the fringes, reports the Liverpool Echo.

But while that is happening at Anfield, a former Liverpool goalkeeper has just been voted the best in the Bundesliga.

Peter Gulacsi, who never made a senior appearance for the Reds during his five-year stint at the club, has conceded just nine goals for third-placed RB Leipzig.

The Hungarian stopper – team-mate of Naby Keita – is top of German magazine Kicker’s Bundesliga rankings, beating off competition from Yann Sommer of Borussia Monchengladbach and Hoffenheim’s Oliver Baumann.

Quite how much credence can be placed in these standings is unknown, given second-placed Sommer shipped five at home to Bayer Leverkusen at the weekend.

It does, however, reflect on an excellent upward trajectory for Gulacsi, who joined Leipzig in 2015 after two successful years at sister club Red Bull Salzburg.

The former Tranmere loanee has played eight league games – and three in the Champions League – so far this season, and kept a clean sheet in Leipzig’s 1-0 win over Stuttgart at the weekend.
