Arsenal stars donned their Christmas jumpers as the Gunners prepare for the festive period - and its hectic schedule.

Jack Wilshere, or 'Woolshere', was among those to wear the festive clothing along with Hector Bellerin, Petr Cech, Granit Xhaka and Aaron Ramsey.

The players were doing so in support of the Save the Children charity.

Wilshere made his first Premier League start of the season on Tuesday evening as Arsene Wenger's side were held to a goalless draw at West Ham.

But despite his recall to action in the top flight, the England midfielder admits his future is still up in the air as he bids to force himself into the international reckoning ahead of the World Cup.

Wilshere, 25, said: “There’s not really a date in the diary. I’ve only read what he's said in the media. I’ve just played my first game in the Premier League, I’m concentrating on staying fit and staying in this team.

“That will look after itself. When it’s the right time to talk about it, I’m sure the boss will call me and we’ll have a chat.”

Wilshere's current contract at the Emirates expires at the end of the season with a clutch of clubs, including West Ham, interested in his services.

He added: “I’ve just got my first Premier League start, I’m buzzing, I’m happy about that. That’s the next step for me – to get into this Premier League team and try to stay in this team.

“There’s another game on Saturday, we’ll see what the boss does, and at the moment that’s all I’m focused on. This time of the year is probably the most important time of the season.

“The game’s come thick and fast. That’s a good thing as well because we dropped points tonight but we’ve got a chance to get three points on Saturday. We need to recover now and get ready.

“I’m happy. I was ready, I was just waiting for my opportunity. It came tonight and I think I took it on well. It’s difficult in the Premier League to Europa League. You don’t get that much time on the ball.

“When you receive it, you’ve always got to check your shoulder because there isn’t much space against teams like this in behind the midfield where I like to play.

"I’m happy with the 90 minutes. Unfortunately we didn’t win and it would have been better if we did win, but I’m happy with it.

“The pace is higher, you don’t get much time, the tempo is obviously faster, the defenders you play against are a little bit stronger. It’s the Premier League. If you’re not willing to fight and tackle…

“You’ve got to do everything, you’ve got to be able to go forward, defend to win the ball back, so that makes it a little bit different but I enjoyed playing in midfield and hopefully I’ll get some more opportunities.”
