Jamie Carragher felt compelled to tell Philippe Coutinho he's not leaving Liverpool for Barcelona after his phone interrupted a live TV interview.

The Reds legend was talking to former Norwegian striker Jan Aage Fjortoft following the Anfield club's 7-0 win over Spartak Moscow on Wednesday.

He was joined by Coutinho for the interview after the stand-in captain's hat-trick ensured Liverpool topped their qualifying group.

But the conversation was interrupted, much to Carragher's embarrassment, when his phone suddenly started ringing.

Reaching for his pocket, the former centre-back quickly turned his phone to silent before looking up at Fjortoft with a red face.

Attempting to defuse the awkwardness, the interviewer announced "it's probably Barcelona, it's Barcelona!" amid laughter from the group.

But Carragher was quick with his response, confidently stating "no, he's staying," to spark more laughter from the trio.

Opting against adding any sort of comment on the issue, Coutinho quickly returned to answering Fjortoft's questions about the match.

Barcelona were very keen in signing the Brazilian in the summer, and saw him as the perfect replacement for the outgoing Neymar.

They made numerous bids for his services, but each were snubbed by Liverpool, who continually claimed he was not for sale.

The issue came to a head when Coutinho handed in his transfer request via email, ruffling a few feathers at the club.

But once again the Reds stood firm and when the summer transfer window eventually slammed shut Coutinho remained a Liverpool player.

Jurgen Klopp named the 25-year-old captain for the Reds' final Champions League group game on Wednesday night.

And the Brazilian led by example, opening the scoring in four minutes before doubling his side's advantage moments later and completing his hat-trick after the break in the 7-0 win.
