Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has revealed he doesn't know whether Eric Bailly is ready for the Red Devils' first team yet.

The Ivorian was Mourinho's first signing after succeeding Louis van Gaal as manager at Old Trafford.

He made 35 appearances in all competitions for Villarreal last season, scoring one goal from defence.

The 22-year-old caught the eye of the Special One, but former Chelsea boss Mourinho has admitted he will need to see more of the centre-half up close before making a call on whether he is ready.

"I could compare him with some players I had previously, but I don’t want to," Mourinho told MUTV.

"He’s a player we believe has all the attributes. Very strong and very fast. It’s not easy to find a fast player with a big body.

"He’s played a right back and that is good for a central defender.

"Is he ready? I don’t know."
