At the height of Sir Alex Ferguson's Manchester United reign, a trip to Old Trafford was considered the hardest away day in the country — even top Premier League teams would be happy to leave with a point.

But Jose Mourinho has admitted those days are long gone.

United are still a top team, they're still competing for titles and they still have some of the world's best players. What they lack, according to Mourinho, is a home ground teams fear coming to.

When asked if teams were afraid to play away to United, Mourinho said: “I don’t think it’s fear factor, I don’t think anyone is afraid to come and play us at Old Trafford.

“Just think normally we have good performances at home, we trust our game and yes, the results we can say positive at home.

“We had lots of draws last season, too many but normally at home we are a strong, confident team so we try to do something tomorrow.”

Mourinho will be desperate for three points on Saturday when they host Mauricio Pochettino's Spurs. The two sides are level on points in the table and only United's goal difference has them placed second, not third.

Speaking about the challenge, Mourinho said: “I think we are fine, I think we are strong and I think we are ready.

“At home, we are a confident team. We trust our game, the results have been positive and we will try to be the same tomorrow.”
