Old foes Jose Mourinho and Arsene Wenger conducted an orderly handshake ahead of Manchester United's clash with Arsenal.

The meeting is the first time that the pair have come head-to-head since Mourinho took charge at Old Trafford.

Mourinho offered his hand to Wenger after the pair made their way to the dugout and they shook hands briefly before returning to their technical areas.

Tensions has often being high between Mourinho and Wenger - and they famously confronted each other during a match at Stamford Bridge in 2014 when the Portuguese was in charge of Chelsea.

Wenger has never secured a Premier League victory over a Mourinho side.

The run stretches back 11 games, with the United boss claiming victory in five and the other six being draws.

The only time that Wenger has managed to beat Mourinho was in the 2015 Community Shield at Wembley.

And the rivalry is renewed as the pair face off at Old Trafford in one of the Premier League's most famous fixtures.

Ahead of the game, Mourinho reignited the feud by suggesting that he deserves more respect than his rival.

“This match is between the two managers with the best record in the Premier League, now Sir Alex Ferguson is not here any more,” said Mourinho.

“Does that mean we shouldn’t be respected, even in periods when our results are not the best?

“I think Mr Wenger has that respect from all of you, I don’t think I have –especially because my last Premier League title was 18 months ago, not 18 years ago.

“It was 18 months ago, so I don’t think that I get that respect. But it’s not because of that I sleep better or not so good, I just follow my way because I want to win a ninth championship and a fourth Premier League.”
