Jose Mourinho says he is calmer than Jurgen Klopp going into Sunday's showdown between Manchester United and Liverpool.

United can close to two points of their arch rivals with victory at Old Trafford, with Mourinho suggesting he will be the more controlled of the two managers on the touchline.

Mourinho's side ground out a 0-0 draw at Anfield back in October, when United were in a difficult period in terms of results.

But Mourinho's men have reeled off nine straight wins – including six in the Premier League – and their manager cannot wait for Sunday's clash.

“We like to win, like every manager likes to win,” said Mourinho.

“Everyone has his own personality, his own style of coaching, his own style of leading.

“Probably we have some qualities that are similar, for sure we have others that make us really different persons and managers.

“But looking to this match, he wants to play the game as much as I want, he's as motivated as I am.

“I'm not sure if he is as calm as I am, but it is just one more big game in our careers.”

Mourinho has even hinted he could perform a repeat of his famous run down the Old Trafford touchline in 2004, when his Porto side knocked United out of the Champions League.

“I can run, that's not a problem,” said Mourinho. “The problem is to score a winning goal in the last minute.

“I can still run, that's no problem. With so many big matches, I wouldn't say [I'm] nervous, no, not at all, but that desire to play, that desire for the match to be tomorrow and not Sunday – I have to wait two days for this game – is the same. And I think it is the same for my players.

“I'm sure Jurgen and Liverpool's players are the same, so let's make a big match, and hopefully outside of the stadium all goes well.

“The emotional side of it, the fans and the players that are in the club for a long time and I think they understand the feeling better than I do .

“But I am here for a few months and I understand step by step, as I mentioned, about the feeling, of that good rivalry because I always feel rivalry is a very good thing for clubs but three points, Three points and no more than that.”

Lyon have bid £13million for United winger Memphis Depay, who joined from PSV Eindhoven for £25m, but Mourinho said the offer fell way short of the club's valuation of the player.

“The offer we had is far from being reasonable for us, so at the moment he is our player,” said Mourinho.

“At the end of the month, if nothing has happened, then he's an option for us.”

Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Marcos Rojo, both of whom missed the EFL Cup semi-final first keg win over Hull in midweek, should both be fit.

Mourinho said: “I think so, we are still 48 hours away from the game but I think they are closer than not to be.”
