Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has included youngsters Matthew Olosunde and Demetri Mitchell in his travelling squad as he sticks to his word over fielding a weakened team against Arsenal.
Mourinho stated on Thursday that he would have to rest players ahead of the crucial return leg in the Europa League semi-final despite the fact his team are still challenging for a top four finish in the Premier League, reports the Manchester Evening News.
The United boss has put his faith in American youngster Olosunde, 19, who joined the club from New York Red Bulls last year, while Mancunian Mitchell, 20, has been catching the eye of everyone at Old Trafford and has been shortlisted for the Reserves' Player of the Year award.
The young stars were also joined by midfielders Matty Wilcock and Scott McTominay, who have have already experienced being part of the first-team when they were named on the bench for the draws with West Brom and Swansea last month.
The quartet's inclusion fuels the possibility Mourinho will play an experimental side at The Emirates Stadium after he conceded in midweek United's top four hopes had ended.
Despite their presence at Stockport Station, the only available senior player who did not travel was Antonio Valencia, whose signs of fatigue has concerned United staff in recent weeks.
Mourinho has all but confirmed Eric Bailly, Marcus Rashford, Jesse Lingard and Antonio Valencia will sit out after they played the most minutes during United's nine-game April.
Marouane Fellaini is also out through suspension, so Mourinho could change half of United's outfield starters from Thursday night's Celta Vigo win.
"We are going to try," Mourinho said of the Arsenal match. "We are going to try. We are not going to Arsenal to say ‘beat us’, or ‘beat us 5 or 6-0’, we are going there to fight for a result.
"But, it’s impossible. I cannot do it in another way. If Celta was playing with their best team, if Celta was fighting for important things in La Liga, we would go in the same circumstances, but I cannot now play with the same team that played here, and then repeat again on the next Thursday.
"So, we have to be human with the players, we have to be sensible and common sense in relation to our situation in the Premier League, and I think the last match against Swansea was last our last chance to fight for top four, so I am going to rest players, sure."
Mourinho has never lost a competitive game to Wenger and referred to the Frenchman as a 'specialist in failure' in 2014.
Later that year the bickering became physical when Wenger shoved Mourinho during Arsenal's 2-0 Premier League defeat at Chelsea while an unauthorised Mourinho biography last year claimed the Portuguese once threatened to 'break Wenger's face'.
United were denied victory by Arsenal in their 1-1 Old Trafford draw six months and Mourinho claims he and Wenger behaved diplomatically long after the final whistle.
Asked if he and Wenger needed to make peace, Mourinho replied: "He doesn’t need to. He doesn’t need to because there are no problems.
"In the last match at Old Trafford, we shook hands before. After, I remember that I still met him in the corridor for the press conferences, we shook hands again.
"He doesn’t need to make peace. When there is peace, we don’t have to have problem. I am a big boy, I’m in football all my life, I know a problem on the pitch, the next day is not a problem at all.
"So for me, not a problem at all and I think he will be really pleased with me that I am going to change my team against Arsenal, so I think he’ll be really happy with me!"
Mourinho ended his post-match press conference against Arsenal six months ago by saying, 'Finally, I lost to Arsene Wenger.'
David de Gea will return to start in goal after Sergio Romero started United's ninth successive European tie in Vigo.
"I don’t like to say this competition is for that goalkeeper, this competition for another one," Mourinho said. "I don’t like that complete separation.
"Sergio played one match in the Premier League, David played two matches in the Europa League against Fenerbahce and against Feyenoord.
"Sergio played also one match in the League Cup, David played the other matches and played the final. I don't like that complete separation. So Sunday plays David."
United host Celta on Thursday before returning to north London again next Sunday to face Tottenham at White Hart Lane.
That fixture precedes the midweek trip to Southampton on May 17 before United's Premier League season concludes with the visit of Crystal Palace.
