Jose Mourinho has revealed Marcos Rojo ate a banana during Manchester United's defeat of FC Rostov because he was TIRED.

Defender Rojo was handed the potassium-rich fruit ready peeled by Ashley Young.

The Argentine then scoffed the banana during the second half to up his fallen levels.

United avoided the banana skin by beating the Russians 1-0, thanks to Juan Mata's goal.

And manager Mourinho has explained that three games in a week had tired his star and he just needed perking up with the energy fruit.

Mourinho told BT Sport : "I was tired many times. I know about the body needing anything, and the player asked for a banana. The banana situation isn't funny at all, we have to respect a player's physical situation.

"It's bad for us as all of the teams above us don't have international football. They don't know what fatigue is. We fight until the limits and that's what we have to do."

Mourinho confirmed Paul Pogba will not play any part for France in the upcoming international break after limping out of the Europa League clash.

"I don't know how long for sure but there will be no Middlesbrough and no national team," he said.

He also complained about the fixture pile up. He added:"It is difficult to play Monday night with 10 men, it is difficult to play now and it is difficult to play on Sunday at 12 o'clock so we have lots of enemies.

"Normally the enemies should be Rostov but we have a lot of enemies.

"We have lots of things going against us and we will have to fight and we will probably lose on Sunday. Fatigue has a price."
