Luke Shaw has been warned he must work harder to save his Manchester United career.

Shaw has played just once for United this year, but will be included in the squad for today's lunchtime clash at home to Bournemouth.

Boss Jose Mourinho reckons Shaw, 21, has the potential to be United's first-choice left-back – but only if he is prepared to put in the hard graft.

“By age, by physicality, by intensity, aggressive going forward, he should be the best,” said Mourinho.

“But to be the best you need to work hard. It’s what he’s trying to do.

“In practical terms we have lots of left-backs - Luke, Daley Blind, Marcus Rojo and Matteo Darmian can all play there.

“The one that should be - in a couple of years - best of all, because potentially he should have all the conditions to be the best of all, is Luke.”
