After the Special One and the Happy One, Jose Mourinho now finds himself cast as the Hungry One.

Hungry for titles and trophies with Manchester United and hungry to bring back the glittering success they last enjoyed under Sir Alex Ferguson.

After three years of mediocrity under David Moyes and Louis van Gaal, serial winner Mourinho strode into Old Trafford and uttered the words every United fan wanted to hear.

While Moyes said United should aspire to be like local rivals Manchester City and Van Gaal's goal was to nudge from fourth to third, Mourinho's only intention is to win.

He spoke with a passion and conviction not seen at United since Ferguson and said he wants “everything” as he seeks to restore a lofty reputation dented by his sacking by Chelsea last season.

“I've always been more aggressive in my approach, with the risks that can bring,” said Mourinho.

“It would be easy, honest and pragmatic for me to focus on the last three years, the fact we didn't qualify for the Champions League and say 'let's try to improve'.

“But I prefer to be more aggressive and to be more aggressive is to say we want to win, we want to win.

“Some of you will question the style of play. You can win a short competition, you can win a couple of matches, without playing well.

But you can't win big competitions without playing well.

“What is playing well? Playing well is scoring more goals than the opponent, conceding less goals, it's to make your fans proud because you give absolutely everything.

“It's to make your fans proud because you win. So we want everything at the same time. And again, it's an aggressive approach by myself. I want everything.

“I want to win matches, I want to play well, I want to play young players, I want to score goals, I don't want to concede goals.

“I want the fans to be behind us because in the last 10 minutes we are chasing a result or because we are defending a result. I want everything, of course.”

Mourinho was aggrieved he was overlooked for the United job in 2013, when Moyes succeeded Ferguson and he returned to Chelsea from Real Madrid for a second spell.

But now he has fulfilled what he always felt was his destiny, Mourinho, 53, said he was not overawed at being United boss and the task that lies ahead.

“It's difficult to find the right words to describe this club,” said Mourinho. “I don’t like the saying people use many times, that it's a 'dream job'.

“No, it's not a 'dream job', this is the reality. I'm Manchester United manager.

“The reality is that it's a job everyone wants and not many have had the chance to have.

“But I have it and I know the responsibility, the expectation and at the same time I know the legacy, I know what is behind me.

“I know the history of this club, what the fans expect from me, and this challenge doesn't make me nervous, because my history in the last 10 years or more was always to meet big clubs' expectations .

“And it comes at the right moment in my career. I feel very well prepared, very stable and with a right motivation. I can say I'm where I want to be. I want to be at this club, in this country, in the Premier League.

“I feel a bit frustrated I'm not playing in the Champions League. Hopefully it's only one season we're not there. United is a Champions League club and we have to make sure in July 2017 we are where it has to be.”
