Will Liverpool sign Naby Keita or won't they?

It's the transfer story that has dragged on and on for what feels like forever, and it seems, despite all the leg-work, the Reds are no closer to landing their man.

Jurgen Klopp has seen two bids for the Guinea international - one worth £57million and an improved offer of £66million - rejected by RB Leipzig.

And the German has all but given up hope of trying to sign the 22-year-old in this transfer window, instead opting to target him again next season.

Keita will be available for £48million next summer due to a clause in his contract.

Although Klopp is monitoring Schalke's Germany international Leon Goretzka, who has only a year left on his contract and could yet be available at a cut price fee, in the hope of signing a midfielder ahead of the new season.

So things have stalled a bit at Liverpool, despite Klopp's best efforts, but the German isn't feeling down in the dumps about it. Quite the opposite in fact.

Instead, he is cracking jokes about how much he thinks it would take his side to coax the Guinean away from the clutches of RB Leipzig.

Speaking to Sky Deutschland, Klopp said: "Our next offer for Keita is €300million!"

The Reds boss was keen to add that he was indeed joking, although he may be able to increase his offer to sign Keita quite significantly should Philippe Coutinho move to Barcelona.
