Jurgen Klopp is set to plunge Philippe Coutinho back into Saturday’s battle against Manchester City after winning the transfer fight to keep him.

The Liverpool boss has stuck to his pledge, first made in Singapore two months ago, that his 25-year-old playmaker would not be surrendered to Barcelona.

While Klopp’s former club, Borussia Dortmund, were forced to sell the latest of their stars - Ousmane Dembele - to Barca last week, the German believes he has made his point that Liverpool are no longer a selling club.

He said: “We have our situation and Dortmund has another.

“Don’t believe that there are offers here and there and that the minute after the offer has been entered, it should already be over.

“We are not like George Orwell where everybody knows everything immediately. We have exactly the situation we wanted and no other.

“Dortmund decided the player would leave them, so I cannot compare the two situations. We still have a really good player in the squad who can play.”

Despite bids of £72million, £90.4million and £114.2million, punctuated by a transfer request from Coutinho, the Anfield giants stood firm.

Although Coutinho has missed the first five games of Liverpool’s season, claiming a back injury, he was back in scoring action for Brazil last week against Ecuador.

Coutinho is now set to jet back to England with Roberto Firmino, Manchester City‘s Gabriel Jesus and Chelsea‘s Willian after Tuesday's game against Colombia in Barranquilla.
