Liverpool have honoured their legendary former player and manager Kenny Dalglish by officially unveiling a stand named after him in a star-studded ceremony at Anfield.

Scores of Dalglish's former players, rivals and team-mates were in attendance for the ceremony, which saw Anfield's Centenary Stand officially named after the Scot.

Sir Alex Ferguson - one of Dalglish's most bitter rivals when the pair were in Anfield and Old Trafford dugouts - attended the ceremony alongside Sir Bobby Charlton, as the pair put their differences to one side.

They were joined by the likes of Steven Gerrard, Robbie Fowler, Michael Owen, Gary McAllister, Gerard Houllier and more.

“If the club thinks I’ve done something for them, it’s a fraction of what this club has done for us,” Dalglish said as he addressed the assembled crowd.

The stand has been re-branded ahead of tomorrow's clash against Manchester United, with illuminated signage being installed and graphics being added to the inside and outside of the stand.

A mosaic will be revealed across the Kenny Dalglish Stand and the Kop prior to tomorrow's kick-off, with the match day programme featuring Dalglish on the cover.

Reds owner John W Henry paid tribute to the Kop icon when the move was announced in May.

“It is testament to Liverpool’s history and status that we are not lacking in truly great individuals, whose names could easily grace a stand at Anfield," he said.

“But in Kenny Dalglish we have a person who carries such immense significance to the fabric of this club, so it feels somewhat incumbent on us to recognise this in a manner that is befitting to the man.

“However, Kenny’s contribution to Liverpool goes beyond goals scored, points amassed and silverware placed in the cabinet.

“His values are Liverpool’s values – he represents what is best about this football club."
