Mesut Ozil has been connected to Barcelona, among other top European clubs, should Arsenal fail to agree a deal with the star for beyond the end of this season.

But the most important man at the Nou Camp is apparently against it.

Lionel Messi believes the Catalans signing the German would be bad business, according to Diario Gol.

Ozil's sale would be cheap in comparison to other top European talent due to the short length left on his contract - or free should they wait until the summer.

But Messi reportedly believes Barca's attention should be on younger talent with something to prove, such as 25-year-old Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho.

Diaro Gol say Messi has told club president Josep Maria Bartomeu and manager Ernesto Valverde what he thinks about the potential signing of 29-year-old Ozil.

"He considers that he is a very old player and that if Coutinho does not come now in January, it is better to put up with the put and go for him again in June," says the publication.

They say Messi wants Barca to sign "a young man with a future and wanting to make a name in a big club, not a player who has already given everything he had to give in European football".

They also say the Argentine is worried about the consistency of Ozil at Real Madrid and Arsenal, both in form and fitness.
