Reds fanatic Curtis was invited to Melwood last year to meet Jurgen Klopp and his players, which he later described as "the best day of my life".

On Friday, Reds star Philippe Coutinho posted about his sadness at the news on Instagram , and fans across social media discussed the idea of holding an applause when Southampton visit Anfield later this month.

And now, Reds CEO Moore has backed the plans and called for supporters to pay tribute to the teenager.

He tweeted: "Tragic news. We should most definitely applaud Curtis at our next game vs. Southampton in the 18th minute.

"A massive Red, gone too soon #YNWA".

Curtis' mum, Tracy, revealed the news of her son's passing on Instagram on Wednesday.

Tracy posted: "On Monday night Curtis suffered an injury, which caused him to rupture his spleen. From this he suffered massive internal bleeding.

"And with his Platelets being low, the doctors couldn't give him enough blood for how fast he was losing it.

"We were given the devastating news this morning, that his spleen was two and a half times the size it should be. This was due to his leukaemia coming back.

"But because Curtis was so ill, he wouldn't have recovered in time to be able to have chemo as his leukaemia would be too advanced.

"Curtis passed away this afternoon peacefully with all his family around him.

"My boy will NEVER WALK ALONE! We love you forever son."
