Benjamin Mendy's active social media presence has finally come back to haunt him following Manchester City's defeat to Liverpool on Sunday.

Liverpool beat the league leaders 4-3, ending their unbeaten run on 22 games.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain got the hosts off to a blistering start when he scored after just nine minutes.

Leroy Sane levelled the playing field just before half-time but it didn't dampen Liverpool's spirits.

Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah all scored in the space of nine second half minutes to make it 4-1.

The Reds did suffer a scare when Bernardo Silva and Ilkay Gundogan found the back of the net late on, but Jurgen Klopp's side held on to secure all three points.

Just before Andre Marriner blew the final whistle, Mendy took to Twitter to post a gif of a boy crying. The injured left-back captioned his gif with: "My mentions today #lookaway."

However, Liverpool fans decided to capitalise on the defender's tweet and hit him where it hurts.
