Jurgen Klopp confirmed Philippe Coutinho will not play any part of Liverpool's Champions League play-off clash against Hoffenheim on Wednesday.

The Brazilian, who handed in a transfer request this summer, has been out with a back injury and is yet to make an appearance for the Reds this season.

Throughout this time he has been strongly linked with a move to Barcelona, with the Catalan giants making three huge bids in an attempt to secure his services.

But Liverpool have rejected all approaches for the 26-year-old, and have remained adamant that the midfielder is not for sale at any price.

Reds fans were hoping to see their star man back in action for the second leg of their European fixture - which they lead 2-1 - at Anfield on Wednesday.

However, Klopp has ruled him out of the fixture, telling the press on Tuesday: "If Phil would start tomorrow he can't because on top of the back he is now ill.

"It was not that serious. He has had no training for a long time. I have no idea [when he's back]. We'd have to check when he is back."

The news has unsurprisingly frustrated the Liverpool supporters, with many of them cracking jokes about the situation.
