Liverpool bosses were reportedly set for showdown talks with Barcelona chief Josep Maria Bartomeu during the Champions League draw in Monaco on Thursday.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Bartomeu was going to attempt to thrash out deals for both Philippe Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele in this time.

While it is believed that the Catalan club are indeed set to chat with Dortmund about the possibility of signing their French forward at some point in the night, Liverpool bosses, on the other hand, will not negotiate with Barcelona.

The reason for this is that the Reds have sent club secretary Danny Stanway and Liverpool legend Ian Rush to the event, and neither are in a position to negotiate transfers.

The Catalan giants are desperate to add reinforcements to their attack after losing Neymar to Paris Saint-Germain for a world record fee.

Liverpool are steadfast in their assertion that Coutinho will not be leaving Merseyside, but the Brazilian is yet to feature this season, adding fuel to the fire.

The Brazilian handed in a transfer request earlier in the summer amid speculation from Barca, and the Catalans have since had three bids rebuffed.

Coutinho was missing from the Reds' win over Hoffenheim on Wednesday night, which sealed their place in the group stage of the Champions League, through illness.

As for Dembele, Dortmund want to hold out for €150million, around £138million, before selling their prized asset.
