Liverpool are reportedly interested in RB Leipzig defender Dayout Upamecano - but are set to miss out on the youngster.

Upamecano, just 18, joined RBL in January and is one of Europe's most highly-rated young defenders.

According to Bild, the Reds have been tracking his progress ever since he switched to Leipzig from sister club Red Bull Salzburg in January.

But, a new five-year deal is on the table and set to be signed, raising his buy-out clause to €100million.

Despite claims the £35million summer signing had not to fulfilled his potential, Klopp believes he is now at the right age to make vast progress.

“Probably when Alex was 18 or 19 people thought he would be ‘the man’ – as people think a lot of times pretty early – and immediately you put a rucksack on their back,” said Klopp of the weight of expectation on the player at the Emirates.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is set to give several of his fringe players a chance to shine when his side take on Leicester in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night.

The Reds made seven changes for the frustrating draw against Burnley at Anfield after their midweek Champions League clash with Sevilla, and Klopp has confirmed he will tinker with his lineup once again.

The game is the first of two trips to the King Power Stadium for Liverpool this week, with the two teams also facing off in the Premier League on Saturday.

Klopp's strongest eleven has largely been set in stone this season, meaning those given a chance in the League Cup tie will need to impress if they're to force their way into the Reds' first team plans.
