Klopp full of respect for Wenger

The German now has some nice words for opposite number Arsene Wenger.

“Obviously Arsene loves what he is doing. He has all the energy needs. It was a hard season.

“After this wonderfully successful time, always in the Champions League and winning things, you get the feeling some people don’t want you. I don’t understand.

“I respect him for all the things he did for Arsenal and football. He is a big, big manager. I’m happy he is still there and we meet again on Sunday.”

Gini Wijnaldum will be available on Sunday after his wife gave birth to their child.

There are minor injuries to Trent Alexander-Arnold and Emre Can.

“Trent has a dead leg. Emre twisted a little bit, not serious. Nothing really. Should be okay,” says Klopp.

Klopp on Sanchez

Klopp is in no doubt of the talent of Alexis Sanchez, who is set to return to the Arsenal line-up on Sunday, but is wary of concentrating too much on the Chilean.

“Sanchez is world-class. We just prepare and defend.

“We have to avoid the passes. We can’t just concentrate on him.”

"We work with what we have"

Despite teasing a couple of incomings, Klopp insists he is happy with the players at his disposal.

“I’m fine with offence and fine with defence. We’ve got 3 out of 4 and we should have won the other.

“We work with what we have.”

Milner 'like a new signing'

Klopp has hailed Andy Robertson and says it allows him to revert James Milner to midfield, which is ‘like a new signing’.

“Everyone thought: ‘Robertson? From Hull?’ But he showed up against Palace.

“Milner in midfield is like a transfer.”

7 reasons Arsenal and Liverpool are essentially the same

Liverpool and Arsenal. Arsenal and Liverpool.

They are two of the giants of the English game, loved the world over and possessing trophy cabinets that would make 99.9% of the other football clubs in England green with envy, but have they turned into one another recently?

Last season, Liverpool finished in Arsenal’s favourite position of fourth place, and this week secured a spot in the Champions League, while Arsenal will head into the Europa League, a tournament that Liverpool have played in in five of the last seven campaigns.

20 times Liverpool vs Arsenal delivered

Liverpool v Arsenal very rarely disappoints, and if you don’t believe us then you’re about to change your mind.

Because while the Reds and the Gunners regularly engage in weekly dramas which keep the likes of us on our toes, when they actually meet there is so much going on that a series of alien invasions on Merseyside and in North London wouldn’t be enough to distract attentions.

And ahead of their latest battle at Anfield on Saturday, we thought we’d celebrate a rivalry which - while never the fiercest - has produced some truly remarkable moments this century.

Klopp wary of Champions League draw

Jurgen Klopp claims Liverpool have unfinished business with Sevilla after the Reds were drawn with them in the Champions League.

Liverpool came out of the pot with Sevilla, Spartak Moscow and Maribor in Group E and Klopp has not forgotten the pain of losing to the Spanish side in the 2016 Europa League Final.

The Reds were leading 1-0 at half-time before capitulating 3-1 to miss out on a Champions League place in the most gut-wrenching night of Klopp’s two-year reign.

“With Sevilla, there is an open bill, I would say,” said the Liverpool boss. “But we all know how good they are in European competition.

“Moscow is a long trip and Maribor, in this moment, you don’t know a lot about them. A lot of people would underestimate them - we will not.

“So we don’t think about the opponent, we just think about the competition. We’ll analyse and take everything seriously because we want to go as far as possible.

“It’s the Champions League, so that means they all earn our 100 per cent respect. That’s what we will show and hopefully we have a few really good games.”
