Klopp on Dalglush

Liverpool will play their first game in front of the Kenny Dalglish Stand tomorrow.

“He was here yesterday. It was nice to have a chat. What a wonderful guy he is. A big role model.

“Now I understand his Scottish. We have real conversations. At the beginning it was just smiling!

“European nights at Anfield are outstanding.. the league games? Could we improve. Yes. It’s Manchester United and everybody who wants to help is welcome.”

Klopp on Salah's crucial penalty for Egypt and other international matters

“1-0 after 66 minutes? I thought it was a golden goal in the World Cup final!

“I would say at the moment he’s our number one penalty taker. That pressure was really big. He did really well.”

“It’s intense. It’s the same for Sadio Mane. How can the players... they don’t have chance to get away from the situation? Sadio has an injury that could mean he’s not involved for Senegal.”

Klopp also admitted he was unhappy to see Jordan Henderson play for England in Lithuania.

“England played a friendly game on an artificial surface... I was not happy that Hendo was on the pitch with all the problems he had. I thought it made no sense.

“No manager asks me how I would line-up. We watch, we wait and we take what we get.”

Klopp responds to rumours he wanted to Manchester United

“First of all.. I heard about an interview of a former manager of mine.

“I really like him, but how it is, when I think too far in the past I’m not 100 percent sure.

“I was a player with him, how could I, as a really average player, want to manage Manchester United. People think I’m crazy but not that crazy.

“He was a big admirer of Sir Alex Ferguson. He wore a Manchester United coat. He might not remember but I remember!

“A few things are not exactly.. but still funny! I had fun when I read it. Not all is exactly like he said. Sorry!”

Klopp hails Mkhitaryan

Klopp worked with Henrikh Mkhitaryan at Dortmund, and has hailed his former player.

“He was always a fantastic player. Perfect attitude. But mentality. He wanted to do everything right in every moment of his life. Sometimes in football you need to be a little bit different.

“We all know that the best players in the world have a few issues. That’s okay. I’m older than a lot of players. I have made mistakes that they don’t have to make. I can tell them.”

Klopp backs himself

Despite an indifferent start to the season, Klopp is backing himself, and his team.

“We had to improve to get into situation we’re in.

“If they sacked me now I don’t think a lot of managers would do the job better.”

On two years at Liverpool, he added: “I’m not overly happy. I didn’t open immediately a bottle of champagne. There’s still a long way to go. But we could have more points. I’m calm and cool with all the things we’ve still to do.”

A big, big opportunity

Klopp: “It’s a big, big, big, big opportunity. Performances are not as bad as people think. We are not so weak we don’t have a chance against Manchester United.

“It’s our stadium, it’s Anfield, the first game with the Kenny Dalglish Stand and we want to use this power.

“We need to be hard and ready for each challenge, but not bad tackles. The old times aren’t possible anymore.”

Klopp: Lukaku has improved at United

Romelu Lukaku is bang in form... and Klopp knows the threat he will pose.

“Lukaku was already a world class striker at Everton. He enjoys life in this team a lot.

“He’s improved since he joined Manchester.”

One of the most special games in world football

Klopp: “Our fans have been waiting ofr the game for two weeks at least. We have two days to prepare. It’s a pretty big game so maybe next time bring these teams together when we can work in the direction of this game.

“Jose’s team play like they have to play in each moment. They are in a better situation than last year.

“They have fantastic players.

“Against us they played often pretty long.. but they don’t always do this. We know they have big quality. But we are still positive. We look forward to it. One of the most special game in world football.”

Klopp admits he'd have liked more time to prepare

Klopp has admitted he would have liked more time to prepare for a game of this magnitude.

“It’s a massive game. I’d love to ask PL to give us both more time to prepare for a game like this. Both have two days to prepare.

“They’re in much better situation than they were last season. We know about their qualities. Against us they play long pretty early.”

Coutinho and Firmino back safe and sound

Klopp confirms Liverpool worked with other clubs to bring their South American players back.

“We work close together with other clubs to bring south American players home. Phil played two games, Roberto five minutes. They had a long flight.. but it was pretty comfortable. I saw the price!

“They should be okay.”

Klopp's in the house!

...and he’s straight on to the subject of Sadio Mane.

Klopp is refusing to panic.

“Thank God we can still play football without Sadio. Lots of teams got injuries from this international break.

“It’s not only Sadio, it’s Fellaini and a lot of other players. It’s Sadio but nobody else, which is the good news. We can play without him.”

Mkhitaryan: Klopp made me a better player

Manchester United star Henrikh Mkhitaryan has opened up on how former boss Jurgen Klopptransformed him into a “better player”.

The Red Devils face Liverpool this weekend and the 28-year-old will come up against his former mentor.

Mkhitaryan played under the German for two seasons at the Bundesliga giants, winning the DFL-Supercup in their time together.

The Armenian, who has been in great form so far this season, revealed that Klopp worked on his mentality and taught him that life is about much more than just football.

“I had chosen Dortmund because I liked the way they play there,” he told 11 Freunde. “The players also liked me – and then there was the great coach, Jurgen Klopp.

“After I had talked to him, the decision had been made for me. I only wanted to go to Dortmund. When I came to Dortmund, Jurgen Klopp told me that I had to let go, and that it’s not good to think about football all the time.”

Liverpool vs Manchester United - the biggest game in the Premier League

From Oswestry to Oslo, Stockport to Shanghai, they’ll be tuning in on Saturday.

Around the world, when it hits 12.30 at Anfield it will also feel like 12.30 wherever they are.

Whether they’re five hours behind like they will be at Liverpool’s Boston Supporters Club in the Phoenix Landing Irish Bar, or 10 ahead as they will be at Sydney’s Scruffy Murphy’s, the home of the Manchester United Supporters Club of New South Wales , all minds will only be on one thing.

Liverpool and United aren’t the only two Premier League sides with fans in such far-flung places, of course, but whenever they meet comes confirmation that this is the game that the division sells itself on.

This is a meeting of the two powerhouses of England’s north-west that is at once both an intense local rivalry and completely global game.
