It was another night when Liverpool were very Liverpool.

The Reds dominated for large periods of their Champions League clash with Spartak Moscow in the Russian capital on Tuesday night, creating plenty of chances and routinely passing them up.

They managed to take one - a fine finish from Philippe Coutinho after a good link-up with Sadio Mane - but by that point they'd contrived to fall behind to Spartak's only shot of the first half, a free-kick from Fernando that Loris Karius should have saved.

Then despite completely dominating the second half they failed to improve on the 1-1 scoreline, dropping more points following their 2-2 draw with Sevilla in their opening group game.

And while there were understandable frustrations with Karius and his defence for allowing the goal, fingers should really be pointed at Liverpool's attack.

Because, as this stat from ESPN below shows, the Reds have taken 121 shots in their last six matches in all competitions, but only scored six goals.

That means that in those matches - the 5-0 defeat to Manchester City, the draws with Sevilla and Burnley, the 2-0 Carabao Cup loss to Leicester, the 3-2 league win over the same opposition and the Moscow draw - they've needed over 20 shots (20.166666666 to be very precise) - to score a goal.

Jurgen Klopp's men have been incredibly wasteful as they've won just one of their six September matches.

The German boss will be delighted that his side's next match at Newcastle is on Sunday - which is October 1!
