Liverpool suffered a bitter injury blow as Georginio Wijnaldum limped out of the Champions League clash with Maribor.

The Dutch international twisted his right ankle inside the first 15 minutes of game at Anfield.

Wijnaldum was clearly groaning in pain following the collision, but was able to walk off the pitch as oppose to be stretchered.

Jordan Henderson replaced him in the centre of midfield.

It is the latest injury blow to Liverpool, after Dejan Lovren failed to pass a fitness test in time to play in the Champions League tie.

The centre-back has not trained since sustaining a thigh injury in the warm-up before Saturday's comfortable win over Huddersfield.

Playmaker Philippe Coutinho is sidelined by an adductor problem and also did not compete on Wednesday.

However, defenders Alberto Moreno (cramp) and Joe Gomez (knock) both trained late on Tuesday after overcoming issues from the weekend and made the squad.
