Sylvain Distin claims he does not recognise Manchester City any more as he prepares to return to his old club.

Distin is back at City with Bournemouth on Saturday and the veteran defender says the Blues have changed completely since he left in 2007 after making 206 appearances in his five years there.

Sheikh Mansour bought City the following year and the former Blues skipper says the transformation has definitely been for the better.

"I've been back quite a few times over the years and the first three or four of those were special because I still had so many friends there," said Distin.

"But it's nearly 10 years since I left City now and obviously there aren't as many people left that I know apart from Joe Hart, who was just beginning at the club and was still a kid back then.

"So much has changed since then so while I always enjoy coming back, it's not the same as it used to be.

"It's always a pleasure to return, but less emotional because I don't recognise the place anymore. But in a good way and that is great for City."

Distin, 37, is tipping his former club to win the title this season and he feels they can capitalise on their rivals' stumbles.

"I think City have a great chance this year because the teams behind have been quite inconsistent," he said. "I think everything is looking bright for the club."
