Manchester City are reportedly closing in on a £50million-a-season kit deal with Puma, in what would be their most lucrative commercial contract to date.

The Premier League leaders' current deal with Nike is understood to expire at the end of the current campaign and is worth around £20million each campaign.

This lags behind the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea and Etihad chiefs are looking to bridge that gap, in a move that would ease any concerns of meeting FFP regulations.

According to the Daily Mail , a deal between Pep Guardiola's side and Puma is near completion. A £50million agreement would be on a par with Chelsea, who entered a 15-year contract with Nike this season.

Puma, who have Sergio Aguero among their all-star line-up of talent including Manchester United target Antoine Griezmann, currently have a £30million deal with Arsenal, with Tottenham's Nike agreement in the same ball park.

City registered a record revenue of £473.4million last year, as chief executive Ferran Soriano looks to diversify their portfolio.

Guardiola's men currently sit top of the Premier League, eight points clear of second-placed Manchester United and are yet to be beaten in the competition. They have also qualified for the knockout stages of the Champions League after winning all five of their group games so far.

They will attempt to maintain their unbeaten record when they visit Huddersfield on Sunday afternoon.
