Liverpool fans absolutely furious as Sadio Mane is shown straight red for high tackle on Manchester City's Ederson

Liverpool fans are furious that Sadio Mane has been sent off in their Premier League clash with Manchester City.

The Reds forward caught Ederson on the chin with a high-boot, causing the Citizens’ goalkeeper to drop to the ground in a heap.

The Brazilian received medical assistance on the pitch before eventually being taken off on a stretcher to the sound of applause inside the Eithad stadium.

But prior to this happening, Jonathan Moss showed Mane a straight red card for the challenge, reducing Liverpool to ten men.

Gary Neville was first to speak out about the decision to send off the former Southampton man, and claimed it was slightly harsh.

“There wasn’t a great reaction from the stadium,” he said on Sky Sports, suggesting no one predicted the referee to show a straight red.

Thierry Henry added: “Sometimes when you see a player go down you think he must be hurt, so I think that played on his mind.”

Gary Neville on the red card

Gary Neville in on commentary duty for Sky Sports today.

Here is his immediate response to the decision.

“It’s a 50-50 really and Ederson just gets there first. Sometimes a stadium can tell you if it’s a bad challenge and there wasn’t great reaction from anybody.

“I don’t think that is a red card, however the goalkeeper ends up.

“His eyes are on the ball, it’s ridiculous. He wins that challenge, the goal is there for him.

“It wasn’t one of those where you think the goalkeeper is the favourite. He does well to get out, and his foot is high.

“Jon Moss, you have just ruined the game there.

“He didn’t need to give a red card. He could have given a yellow. I think he’s got it wrong.

“The reason Ederson is injured is because his back three have ridiculously tried to play the offside.”

The Ox speaks out about Liverpool move

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain admits leaving Arsenal was the hardest decision of his life but the opportunity to work with Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool was one he could not turn down.

The England midfielder completed his move to Anfield on deadline day in a deal believed to be worth up to £35million after rejecting the chance to join Premier League champions Chelsea.

Oxlade-Chamberlain won the FA Cup three times during his six-year spell at Arsenal but felt he had to move on to further his career.

“It was the hardest decision I’ve ever had to make,” the 24-year-old told The Times.

“I want to thank the Arsenal fans who’ve always supported me. But I can’t apologise for my decision to leave. I want to get more out of myself.

“I felt the main thing was taking myself out of my comfort zone. That’s why Liverpool shouted out for me.

“Having been someone on the outside looking in, I couldn’t help but notice what the manager (Klopp) is doing here, and wondering what it would be like to play for a character like that.

“He’s very inspirational, passionate, involved and intense. I felt that was something that could gee me up.

“You can see from how the team play how he instils that intensity in the players. I feel like that kick up the backside would be good for me. “The manager can take me up to the next level.”
