Kevin de Bruyne insists Manchester City’s record winning streak will mean nothing if they finish the season empty-handed.

City’s late victory over West Ham was their 20th in a row and they have notched up a record-equalling 13 straight Premier League wins.

But de Bruyne claims they are interested in silverware rather than records.

“Yes, it is an achievement, but it doesn’t matter if you don’t win anything at the end of the season,’ he said. “Nobody will care about it then.

“Are you going to say, if we don’t win anything at the end of the season, you are going to talk about the 20 wins we have now?

“It is phenomenal, but obviously we want to win in the end.”

City hold an eight-point lead over Manchester United going into Sunday’s derby at Old Trafford, but de Bruyne claims that advantage could quickly vanish during their busy December.

“We have a good advantage for the moment, but we have a big week with United, Swansea and Tottenham coming up,” said the Belgium playmaker.

“If you lose two games out of three and they win everything, they are there. It is just the way it goes.

“It goes up and down in football and at the moment we are on an up. We need to keep focused on what we are keep busy with ourselves.”

De Bruyne, who was not travelling to Ukraine today with City because he is suspended for Wednesday’s Champions League clash with Shakhtar Donetsk, says City will play their usual attacking football at Old Trafford.

“We want do to what we always do, try to play our style, put them under pressure and see where it goes from there,” he said.

“We want to try and dominate the ball, so we just have to look at ourselves.

“Hopefully, we can win the game, that would be massive. But it’s not always about winning or losing - it’s about playing the same way we always we do and give our all. So far, that’s seen us win games, so that’s good.

“The derby is always special. It’s a big game, first against second, so everybody will be up for it.

“It’s a huge game and the media is going to be on it this week, but we just have to hope the team have a good game in Shakhtar and then get ourselves ready for Sunday.”
