Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been named in Manchester United's Champions League squad - raising the prospect of him figuring in the group stage.

Ibrahimovic, who has re-signed to United for another season, is continuing his recovery from a cruciate ligament injury that was expected to keep him out until January.

But the striker, who turns 36 next month, has been named in Jose Mourinho's 25-man squad submitted to UEFA, suggesting he could return to action earlier than expected.

Fellow forward James Wilson, who has just returned from a long injury lay-off himself, has also been named in the squad for the group games against Basel, Benfica and CSKA Moscow.

Luke Shaw, who is still yet to make his comeback from injury, also makes the cut.

United's final Group A game is at home to CSKA Moscow on December 5, which could see Ibrahimovic, who scored 28 goals last season make his long-awaited comeback.

Squad in full: David De Gea, Sergio Romero; Victor Lindelof, Eric Bailly, Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo, Chris Smalling, Daley Blind, Luke Shaw, Antonio Valencia, Matteo Darmian; Paul Pogba, Juan Mata, Jesse Lingard, Michael Carrick, Ashley Young, Ander Herrera, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Marouane Fellaini, Nemanja Matic; Romelu Lukaku, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Anthony Martial, James Wilson.
