Manchester United checked into the The Lowry Hotel on Thursday morning ahead of their vital Europa League match against Feyenoord.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who is living at the hotel, was forced to leave in a car only to return with the rest of his team an hour later.

The Armenian is set to get a rare start at Old Trafford with the stakes high for Jose Mourinho’s side as they chase a place in the round of 32.

He's made just one start since his full debut against Manchester City in early September.

United are third in Group A behind joint leaders Fenerbahce and tonight’s opponents with a defeat at Old Trafford likely to be prove the end of their European campaign.

However, a win tonight could see United leapfrog Feyenoord into the top two, with just a match against minnows Zorya to follow before the knockout stage.

"It's simple - we need four points to qualify and it doesn't matter what happens in the matches where we are not involved," Mourinho said.

"There is no space for a defeat tomorrow, because (it is) a game where we have only two options and the third option, defeat, (means) we are out.

"We are going to approach the game knowing it is a knockout game for us and we cannot lose."

Despite the importance of the match, Mkhitaryan's inclusion follows Mourinho saying the Armenian couldn't handle the pressure of the weekend's Premier League clash with Arsenal.

"I told him, 'This [Arsenal] was not the game for you, I don't think you need 10 or 20 minutes from the bench, I think you need a good game and you need to either start or if not to come (on) for the second half'," Mourinho said of a 1-1 draw that left United nine points adrift of Premier League leaders Chelsea.

"He needs less pressure and better conditions for him to express his qualities."

Luke Shaw is also believed to be returning, although wasn't spotted as the team arrived.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic was front and centre and will also be looking to get back on the goalscoring trail after Mourinho confirmed he is keen to exercise an option to keep the Sweden international at Old Trafford for a second year.

Other players checking in ahead of tonight's game, and believed to be in the squad, included Wayne Rooney, Marcos Rojo, Marcus Rashford and Ander Herrera.
