Manchester United are considering an appeal against Phil Jones' European suspension.

The Red Devils defender was fined €5,000 and banned for two matches for allegedly using abusive language towards a doping controls officer following the Europa League final.

Teammate Daley Blind was also fined for not complying with UEFA guidelines.

After his side's victory over Sampdoria, Jose Mourinho suggested Jones' ban was unfair, reports the Manchester Evening News.

The Red Devils flew back into Manchester in the early hours of Thursday morning, arriving at around 1:30am.

"I would, if I was him I would," Mourinho stressed. "Because I think it's quite unfair. But when you do that you have the risk of even more punishment. I don't know, it's a decision I leave with him.

"Put yourself in his position," Mourinho added. "He wins a European cup, he wants to celebrate with his team, he wants to get the cup, he wants to get the medal, he wants to be in the pictures, and one doctor wants to close him in a small room because of the doping control.

"I think it's very hard to control a player in this situation and Uefa should take that into consideration.

"It's not a normal match, it's a final, it's a cup, it's a medal, it's a celebration, it's everything, and I think it would be easier for the doping control committee to get someone to go to the pitch with him to see there that is not any wrongdoing in his behaviour, just a human desire to celebrate.

"So I think they should take that into consideration, so I feel really sorry, I think it's very unfair, it's a problem for us in terms of football but even more than that I don't think it's fair and any one of us in the same situation would react negatively.

"I don't think it's fair."

The commotion after United's final game of last season is believed to have prevented Jones from posing in a dressing room squad photo with the 'Manchester - a city united' banner.
