Manchester United are without strikers Romelu Lukaku and Zlatan Ibrahimovic for their trip to Everton.

Lukaku will miss at least two games after suffering a head injury against Southampton, while Ibrahimovic faces a month out with a recurrence of his knee problems.

Wing-back Ashley Young is suspended for three games after accepting a violent conduct charge after elbowing Southampton's Dusan Tadic.

Michael Carrick, Marouane Fellaini and Eric Bailly remain sidelined, with question marks over Chris Smalling, Antonio Valencia and Matteo Darmian.

But as James Robson of the Manchester Evening News points out these setbacks present Jose Mourinho with an opportunity to shake things up in attack.

His decision to play Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard against Chelsea last season was a shock - but one that paid dividends as the eventual champions were beaten 2-0 at Old Trafford.

There were more signs of their understanding when Rashford came on as an early substitute for Lukaku on Saturday.

Both he and Lingard like to put defenders under pressure by driving at them with the ball at their feet.

The same can be said of Anthony Martial - but less so Lukaku and Ibrahimovic.

And while Mourinho clearly has doubts about both Rashford and Martial as orthodox centre forwards, he has little choice but to call on them at Goodison Park.

In a trio with Lingard he has arguably his most fluid and mobile forward line - which could do some serious damage to Sam Allardyce’s rear-guard.

Provisional squad: De Gea, Romero, Pereira, Tuanzebe, Darmian, Jones, Smalling, Valencia, Lindelof, Rojo, Shaw, Blind, McTominay, Pogba, Herrera, Matic, Lingard, Martial, Rashford, Mata, Mkhitaryan.
