Manchester United to take the Premier League by storm – and win the title this season.

Midfielder Herrera was one of United’s most consistent performers last year when they lifted both the Europa League trophy and EFL Cup. But Jose Mourinho’s side finished the league campaign in sixth place, a full 24 points behind champions Chelsea.

Now the 27-year-old reckons they are ready to change that. He said: “If you’re looking for a favourite for the title, then I would back United.

“The race will be very open and the key for me is to avoid defeats at home and to start the season with a run of victories to prove we are contenders.

“Just looking at statistics and at the squad, you can say that Manchester Untied is a candidate for the title – but we need to demonstrate it on the pitch.”

Herrera, who played 50 games for United last season and scored two goals, admits the race for top spot will be tougher than ever, but he is not expecting any surprises.

“I don’t see many changes in the title race – Chelsea, City, Spurs, Liverpool and us,” he said.

Arsenal are clearly missing from that list, but Herrera expects the Gunners to fight back from last season’s disappointments.

“Arsenal will need a reaction after missing out on the Champions League last season and Alexandre Lacazette is a good signing, so let’s see,” he added.

“As for United, we want to win a trophy and go as far as we can in the Champions League – but the Premier League is our target.”
