Tammy Abraham has been urged to go easy on his misfiring Swansea team-mates - as he too will make mistakes this season.

Boss Paul Clement has defended the rest of his players after their failure to make the most of their on-loan Chelsea striker with Arsenal there for the taking on Saturday.

Abraham had assisted for Sam Clucas to fire the Swans into a shock lead. But he showed his frustration after Tom Carroll failed to find him with a ball which would have put him through on goal.

Then Jordan Ayew blew the chance of a second when he failed to pass to an unmarked Abraham just before the break. Arsenal regrouped to score twice and win in the second half.

Clement said: “You can look at that game and see some errors from Tammy, from Jordan, and our midfielders. There are errors going on all the time.

“What you have to understand is that there are going to be mistakes made by him, by other players. You have to contain your frustration and move on to the next thing as quickly as possible.”

“I think [Tammy] is developing well, it’s going to be a big challenge for him this season. He is in a team that are towards the bottom end of the table having to fight every game.

“Not only will he learn things tactically, about the physicality of the Premier League. He’s going to learn a lot about himself mentally this year because he’s not at a top six club where you have more of the ball and you don’t have to do so much necessarily defensively so it’s a big learning experience for him.”

Clement believes Abraham will benefit more from his struggles at the bottom of the table than he would have done had he stayed at Chelsea.

He added: “That was part of the reason when I spoke to him coming here, that it’s going to be a massive learning experience for him.”
