Pep Guardiola has hailed Fabian Delph for turning his career around and becoming an instant hit in the Manchester City starting XI.

Delph played at left-back for City at Chelsea on Saturday evening's 1-0 win, keeping his place after impressing against Shakhtar in the Champions League during the week.

Guardiola has had to mix up his squad following the injury to Benjamin Mendy, that could end the £52million Frenchman's season.

Delph was favoured for the left-back role and Guariola has been left overwhelmed by the level of performance received.

"The last few games Fabian Delph has played and he had an outstanding performance," Guardiola told BT Sport.

"He is a guy that doesn't lose the ball he is aggressive and clever.

"I am so happy for him after the way he played last season."

"Everyone is talking about Kevin de Bruyne," Guardiola said. "He makes absolutely everything. He is the most humble guy, I am so happy for him because I know how happy he is."

Speaking to the BBC, Guardiola added: "He is good in small spaces, he is humble and clever.

"He has speed and fight and can attack through the channel. He can play in four of five positions so we are lucky."
