It was a slow start for the Premier League's newest signings as the action resumed on Saturday following the international break.

Many of the biggest names were left as substitutes while of those who did play 90 minutes, only Tottenham's Davinson Sanchez found himself on the winning team.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain found himself in a familiar situation in a top of the table clash, despite switch Arsenal for Liverpool, with the Reds going down 5-0 to Manchester City.

Patience is not a virtue in this league, so those who have recently joined will need to get up to speed quickly.

Here, Mirror Football rounds up how the debutants fared around the top flight.

Manchester City v Liverpool

It was a case of history repeating for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, whose Arsenal debut in 2011 came as a second-half substitute in the memorable 8-2 hammering by Manchester United.

The England midfielder entered at half-time on this occasion and was again unable to prevent a heavy defeat in Manchester.

Everton v Tottenham

Sanchez featured in a new-look back three for Tottenham and enjoyed a straightforward first run-out as Spurs eased to victory.

Fellow newcomers Serge Aurier and Fernando Llorente were unused substitutes while Everton's Nikola Vlasic was introduced with 10 minutes remaining.

Leicester v Chelsea

Danny Drinkwater was an unused substitute for Chelsea, denying him a debut against his former employers.

The England midfielder was greeted with a mixture of applause and booing when he warmed up on the touchline, but it was fellow deadline-beater Davide Zappacosta who got on for a 15-minute run-out.

The Italian missed a good chance to register on debut, but the Blues held on for the win to ensure it was not costly in the end.

Brighton v West Brom

Albion's Grzegorz Krychowiak, on loan from Paris St Germain who paid 30million euros for him last year, was overshadowed by Pascal Gross, a £3m signing earlier this summer who scored two goals on his fourth Brighton appearance to set up a 3-1 win.

Krychowiak struggled throughout, though Baggies substitute Kieran Gibbs fared better on his first appearance since joining from Arsenal after his cross helped create James Morrison's consolation goal.

Southampton v Watford

Southampton bought Wesley Hoedt to play with Virgil Van Dijk rather than replace him.

And, on this evidence, they have the makings of an effective all Dutch defensive pairing once Van Dijk regains focus and fitness following his failed attempt to secure a summer move away.

Left-footer Hoedt was composed in possession - he'll pass rather than hoof the ball forward aimlessly - sensed danger well and, unsurprisingly at 6ft 3, was strong in the air too on his debut following his £17m move from Lazio.

He is also assertive in his attempts to win the ball, willing to leave his position and step forward to try and nick it just ahead of an opponent.

On a couple of occasions early on that eagerness led to him being caught out and needing his teammates to bail him out but, after that, he didn't put a foot wrong in what was an assured bow despite his side's defeat.

It was the turn of Renato Augusto, who raised excitement in a rather drab-looking 'Super Sunday'.

The Portuguese was lively and showed some flash touches, but it was a poor performance overall.

He was too keen to impress and forced things a little, giving away possession carelessly and wasting a glorious chance from a free-kick.

Wilfried Bony made his 'second' debut for the Swans too, but he failed to inspire a comeback in the loss.
