The countdown to the new season starts now.

The new season's fixtures which were announced on Wednesday morning saw Antonio Conte's team given a Stamford Bridge opener on the weekend of August 12/13.

Runners-up Tottenham start away from home for the seventh successive season. The trip to newly-promoted Newcastle is a repeat of the 2012/13 opener, which the Magpies won 2-1.

Brighton host Manchester City while the other Premier League newcomers, Huddersfield, open at Crystal Palace.

Manchester United begin at home to West Ham, 2016 champions Leicester visit Arsenal, while Liverpool go to Watford.

Everton host Stoke, Southampton face Swansea and West Brom are at home to Bournemouth in the other opening day matches.

West Ham facing fixture dilemma

West Ham face the possibility of having to play their first three matches of the season away from home.

The club have confirmed their second fixture, scheduled to be at home to Southampton, will have to be rearranged due to the World Athletics Championships being held at the London Stadium.

The event takes place between August 5 and 13, so the stadium will not be back in ‘football mode’ in time for the Saints game on August 19. The fixture could be reversed, meaning the Hammers would face three games on the road.

The club said: “Our opening fixtures in August will be played away from home as London Stadium welcomes the 2017 IAAF World Athletics Championships for a once-in-a-generation occasion.

“Supporters are therefore advised that our second fixture of the campaign, against Southampton, will be rescheduled, with further details to follow.”

Burnley fixtures

Burnley have landed champions Chelsea for their first match of the season after battling last campaign to keep their place in the Premier League for a third successive season.

Sean Dyche’s men were reliant on their incredible home form which saw them post the ninth best home record - but they had the second worst on the road.

Could Leicester open their season AGAINST Riyad Mahrez?

It’s a distinct possibility after the Foxes drew an away game at the Gunners for the first challenge of the 2017-18 campaign.

After the euphoria of winning the league in 2016, Leicester hit the ground with a bump as they struggled at the start of last season.

Stoke fixtures

Stoke finished 13th last season and Mark Hughes’ men will be keen to hit the ground running come August.

It wasn’t until last October when they celebrated their first win of the season at home Sunderland.

The Potters tasted five defeats and three draws before they defeated the eventually relegated Black Cats 2-0.

A repeat of last season’s poor start will be something Welshman Hughes is desperate to avoid.

Bournemouth fixtures

Bournemouth avoided a dose of ‘second season syndrome’ by finishing ninth in their second Premier League campaign.

The Cherries recorded impressive victories over Everton, Liverpool and champions Leicester to finish in the top half for the first time.

Boss Eddie Howe continues to impress at the Vitality Stadium and he will be looking to strengthen his squad over the summer.

Newcastle fixtures

Newcastle are back in the big time at the first time of asking.

There were times last season when even the most ardent of Geordie supporters were unsure whether Rafa Benitez’s men would get their automatic promotion bid over the line, fearing another year outside the Premier League .

But Benitez’s men managed to do so, landing the Championship title on the final day of the season.

Crystal Palace fixtures

Crystal Palace welcome Huddersfield to Selhurst Park on the opening weekend of the season.

The Eagles pulled off the ‘Great Escape’ last season - and then their manager decided he was off.

Sam Allardyce stunned the football world when he announced he was leaving Selhurst Park last month.

The former England manager sensationally saved Palace from the drop by masterminding their survival with incredible victories over the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool.

But there is no sign of an immediate replacement for Big Sam just yet, despite the clock counting down until pre-season.

Huddersfield fixtures

Huddersfield face a trip to Crystal Palace in their first ever game in the Premier League - before hosting fellow promoted side Newcastle.

The Terriers hit the jackpot at Wembley in May as they celebrated promotion to the Premier League.

David Wagner’s men managed to get through a nail-biting draw with Reading before triumphing in an agonising penalty shootout.

Here’s Huddersfield’s fixture list in full.

Tottenham fixtures

Tottenham are eyeing their first ever Premier League title after coming so close two seasons running and they’ll hope it is third time lucky beginning with Newcastle away on the opening weekend.

Mauricio Pochettino is the key man for Spurs and keeping their boss is imperative to overcoming the disadvantage of playing an entire campaign at Wembley Stadium.

New signings will be key too, along with players developing further, as their rivals aim to spend considerably more than them.

Bad news, Arsenal fans

Arsenal face a nightmare post-European scenario next season, with four of their six matches directly after Europa League group stage fixtures away from home.

Arsene Wenger’s side finished outside the top four for the first time under the Frenchman last term, and will now feel the full force of a competition that, while won by Manchester United last term, has often directly impacted on a club’s league performance.

United failed to mount a title challenge last term and eventually struggled to keep pace with the top four.

That was a similar story for Liverpool as they reached the final the previous year.

Now the Gunners face similar difficulties, and have received little help with next season’s fixtures.

Here’s a rundown.

Chelsea fixtures

Antonio Conte’s side open their Premier League title defence against Burnley.

The Blues - fresh from their dismal title defence the year - bounced back emphatically under the Italian’s guidance as they reclaim the championship in style.

Now the pressure is on Chelsea to stand up to their rivals once again and successfully defend their crown.

Arsenal fixtures

Arsenal ended their season on a high, winning the FA Cup at Wembley over Chelsea.

But their Premier League campaign was a huge disappointment.

Arsene Wenger’s side could only manage fifth place, falling out of the top-four for the first time in 21 years.

They will be hoping to hit the ground running this time.

Manchester City fixtures

Pep Guardiola doesn’t waste any time does he?

Within days of the season finishing, Guardiola had already pounced to sign Monaco playmaker Bernardo Silva and a new goalkeeper in Ederson from Benfica.

And that was after clearing out five players from his squad - Pablo Zabaleta, Bacary Sagna, Gael Clichy, Willy Caballero and Jesus Navas. More could follow too - including England No.1 Joe Hart.

Liverpool fixtures

Liverpool are eyeing a Premier League title push next season and will begin their campaign at Vicarage Road, taking on Marco Silva’s Watford.

Jurgen Klopp’s men confirmed their place in the Champions League with a comfortable final day victory at Anfield over relegated Middlesbrough.

Now, the question on the lips of Liverpool fans is whether Klopp can transform his side into genuine title contenders?

Manchester United fixtures

Manchester United will begin the new Premier League campaign at home to West Ham on August 12.

Jose Mourinho’s side have been handed what appears to be a relatively favourable start to the new campaign as they bid to launch a tile challenge.

Brighton react to Man City first game

Club ambassador Alan Mullery, said: “Many years ago I was the last manager to take them up and we drew Arsenal at home on the first day and we got stuffed 4-0.

“It’s changed so much now because you’ve got so many good sides in the Premier League and you’ve got to fight, you’ve got to scrap, you’ve got to chase, you’ve got to win as many games as you possibly can at the start of the season.

“Because if you lose four or five games you are on a downward trend and that’s very difficult.

“Its got to be a big plus for the players that they are going to come up against some of the best players in the world.”

Blockbuster game first up?

It was Arsenal vs Liverpool last season, which ended 4-3 to the visitors and ultimately proved decisive in the battle for a top four finish.

The year before that it was Manchester United vs Tottenham.

In 2013 and 2014 we lacked that glamour fixture entirely, while 2012’s pick was Manchester United vs Everton.

After what is likely to be the biggest spending summer of all time, everybody will be hoping for two giants to meet to welcome back the Premier League.
