Arsenal still have the most expensive season ticket in the Premier League - but on average, Liverpool fans are paying a similar amount, the BBC's annual Price of Football study has revealed.

The study also finds that while most ticket prices have been frozen or gone down in price for the third consecutive year, price is still putting young adult fans off going to football games.

And in a worrying sign for the future of football, young fans revealed they were more likely to engage with the game by playing computer games (61 per cent) than playing as part of a team (37 per cent).

On the age-old season ticket measurement, fans of the Gunners still have to shell out the most of any Premier League outfit.

The club charged £891 for the cheapest and most popular annual ticket at the Emirates, while the most expensive on offer comes in at a whopping £1,768.50 (a decrease from £2,013 last year).

However, most fans at Liverpool are paying a similar amount to what Arsenal supporters do.

Fans at Anfield can get a season pass for as cheap as £685, but the most popular season ticket costs £869 - just £22 less than the amount that Arsenal do.

The four most expensive season tickets in the Premier League are all at the London clubs, with Tottenham (£1,700), Chelsea (£1,250) and West Ham (£1,155) joining Arsenal in charging premium rates for their top seats.

Only Paris Saint-Germain have a more expensive season ticket in the whole of Europe, with their priciest offering costing £2,817.50.

The BBC's survey of more than 200 clubs across the UK reveals detailed information about ticket prices and 1,000 fans aged 18-24 about how they engaged with the game - and 82 per cent say the cost of tickets kept them away from the stands.

The annual study says 134 clubs out of the 190 in England, Scotland and Wales offer reduced prices for teenagers and young adults but 55 per cent of fans said it was still too expensive.

Chelsea charge up to £87, while West Ham (£80), Tottenham (£75) and Brighton (£60) are also among the more expensive.

Unlike with season tickets, Liverpool have the cheapest single game offering, with advance online bookings available for as little as £9.

When it comes to the all-important half-time pie only one club, West Ham, has reduced the price of those hand-held pieces of pastry genius.

With half of the top flight's clubs increasing their price per pie the average has climbed to £3.65 - up 4.58 per cent since last season.

Incredibly, the average cost of a cup of tea is actually more in the Championship than the high-flying Premier League by 3p. QPR sell the most most expensive brew in British football at £3.20.
