Gareth Southgate has hinted he is ready to bring in Marcus Rashford - and that could mean the axe for Raheem Sterling.

Manchester United whizkid Rashford replaced Sterling at half time and is favourite to start against Slovakia at Wembley.

England boss Southgate will name his team to the players on the day of the game but will keep Jordan Henderson as captain and is also likely to bring in Eric Dier for Jake Livermore.

Southgate said: "We will make some changes but the core of the team is pretty much established and I don't think that would surprise too many people, really.

"Eric is obviously an option we have. He's played in most of the games for us and he's playing well with his club, so, yeah, that's a possible change for us.

"I think he (Rashford) has been playing very well for Manchester United all season. We really like his mentality so we wouldn't hesitate to start him.

"Starting him was a possibility in Malta but he missed some of the training, not only with us but also the week before with Manchester United so we've also been looking after him a bit. But we would have no hesitation in selecting him."

England (probable): Hart; Walker, Jones, Cahill, Bertrand; Dier, Henderson; Oxlade-Chamberlain, Alli, Rashford; Kane.
