Mino Raiola, the agent of Romelu Lukaku, has reiterated the call of his client urging Manchester United fans to stop the controversial 'racist' chant about the £75million striker.

Lukaku has begun his Old Trafford career in excellent form, scoring eight times already and emerging as a major fan favourite.

United fans have lauded the striker with a song - which references Lukaku’s penis, playing into racist stereotypes - which has been sung at recent games, including, despite warnings from the club and a request from Lukaku for them to stop, at Southampton on Saturday.

Lukaku again found the net and Raiola believes the song is now not just proving controversial, but is taking away from the player's on-field achievements.

"He would like this song to stop," said Raiola. "They are talking more about the song than about his football. That’s his and my quote."

Lukaku had already stated his wish last week that the song, to the tune of the Stone Roses' Made of Stone, was fazed out by United's support.

"Great backing since I joined #MUFC," he was quoted as saying on the club's official Twitter account. "Fans have meant well with their songs but let's move on together. #RespectEachOther"

Instead, United supporters that travelled to the south coast were unrepentant, chanting: "We're Manchester United, we'll sing what we want!"

Anti-racism organisation Kick it Out have called the song "offensive and discriminatory".

The Red Devils have requested CCTV footage from St Mary's on Saturday, so they can punish those supporters who ignored the request.

A United statement condemning the actions of the travelling fans read: "Manchester United has a zero tolerance stance on offensive chanting and behaviour.

"The club and player have been clear in asking for an end to the chant.

"The club has worked with relevant bodies and supporters groups in trying to eradicate any offensive behaviour and will take action against individuals if this continues. The club in discussion with the police and has asked for CCTV footage.

"We will try to identify those who disrespected the player's wishes not to sing the song."
