Back in May 2013 Sir Alex Ferguson said goodbye to Manchester United.

The legendary manager, who had been in charge of the Old Trafford club since 1986, stepped down following his side's 5-5 draw with West Brom at the Hawthorns.

The ten-goal thriller provided a great way for the Scot to sign off, although he would have wanted to win the game in which future player Romelu Lukaku scored a hat-trick against him.

Here we look back on the first XI and substitutes selected by Ferguson on that day, and see where they are now...

Anders Lindegaard

Selected between the sticks for Ferguson's final game, Lindegaard joined West Brom two years after the Scot left. Today the 33-year-old is at Burnley.

Antonio Valencia

A man who seems to get better with age. Signed by Ferguson from Wigan, the right-back played in the Scot's last game, and also played in Man United's last game under new boss Jose Mourinho.

Jonny Evans

After coming through Man United's youth system, Evans was let go in 2015. The West Brom defender did attract some interest this summer however, with both Arsenal and Manchester City looking to sign him.

Phil Jones

Another Ferguson player who has stood the test of time. The former Blackburn defender is starting to make a name for himself at Old Trafford and has been a stand-out performer this season.

Alexander Buttner

Ferguson had a lot of faith in the Holland left-back, who started his final game in charge of the Manchester club. Today the 28-year-old plays for Vitesse.

Anderson

The Brazilian enjoyed many good years in Manchester under Ferguson, but was let go in 2015. He currently represents Internacional but is on loan at Coritiba.

Michael Carrick

A third player who is still at the club, although this is his last season. The 36-year-old proved himself a model midfielder as he steadied United's ship under both David Moyes and Louis van Gaal.

Tom Cleverley

The 28-year-old also left Man United in 2015 after a number of loan spells before signing permanently for Everton. He joined Watford at the start of the season.

Shinji Kagawa

The Japan international scored the opening goal of Ferguson's final game in charge, but was shipped out to his former club Dortmund in 2014.

Robin van Persie

The man who helped Ferguson win the title in his final season at the club. The Holland striker currently plays for Fenerbahce after joining the Turkish club in 2015.

Javier Hernandez

The ultimate penalty-box predator failed to impress both Ferguson's and Moyes' replacement at Old Trafford and eventually left. Today he's back in the Premier League playing for West Ham.

Substitutes

David De Gea, Patrice Evra, Rio Ferdinand, Ryan Giggs, Nemanja Vidic, Paul Scholes, and Adnan Januzaj were named on the bench for the 2013 trip to West Brom.

Not a bad group of players, eh? Even if most were in the latter parts of their careers.

Spain international De Gea is the only man from this group who has kept his place at Man United, and is arguably the club's best current player.

Evra is at Marseille, Januzaj is at Real Sociedad, and Ferdinand, Giggs, Vidic and Scholes are all retired from the game.
