Rio Ferdinand has claimed he knows why Arsene Wenger doesn't win Premier League titles with Arsenal - and it's all to do with his goalkeepers.

Last season the Gunners boss chose to regularly switch Petr Cech with David Ospina depending on what competition Arsenal were playing in.

For Premier League games, the former Chelsea shot-stopper got the nod, while in the Champions League the Colombian was Arsenal's number one.

Klopp has similarly chopped and changed his keepers this season, starting both Loris Karius and Simon Mignolet in the Premier League.

But Ferdinand thinks this tactic has a destabilising impact on a team, and is apparently the reason Wenger doesn't win titles.

"You have got to build relationships with the players on the pitch, said Ferdinand, while providing Champions League analysis on BT Sports.

"Two centre-halves and the goalkeeper, that's a triangle. I had that with Edwin Van Der Sar and [Nemanja] Vidic and it became telepathic.

"You can't get that chopping and changing. You need to play games consistently.

"It's like when you play for England, you play two, three, four games, you don't feel a part of it. You need ten, fifteen games to feel a part of it.

"And that's the way the keepers will be as well.

Gary Lineker, who was also on the BT Sports panel, interrupted the former Manchester United centre-back, saying: "He's not the only one to do it, Arsene Wenger has done it quite recently in cup competitions.

To which Ferdinand responded: "They don't win the league, though, that's why."
