Romelu Lukaku has revealed what Jose Mourinho said to convince him to join Manchester United.
It was widely believed that close friend Paul Pogba was the main instigator in securing the Belgian striker's move to Old Trafford.
"Me and Paul, we’d go to the city to have dinner and he’d drive past Old Trafford on purpose," said Lukaku recently
But following United's penalty win over Real Madrid, the 24-year-old revealed that a chat he had with Mourinho swayed him "the most".
"The conversation I had with the manager really convinced me the most," Lukaku said. "He told me of his plans, about how he wanted to rebuild the club, and wanted me to be part of it.
"He is a manager who has always had a lot of belief in me and I believe in his methods.
"It is going to be good to work together again."
Lukaku has got off to a good start at United, scoring twice in three games in pre-season.
The Red Devils face Barcelona next in pre-season on Thursday. Mourinho's men will then travel back to Europe to face Valerenga and Sampdoria before taking on Real Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup on 8 August.
