Ryan Mason has admitted he may wear a head guard when he returns to action.

The Hull midfielder underwent brain surgery after a sickening clash of heads with Chelsea's Gary Cahill in January.

Mason has been given the all-clear to play again but is waiting for his skull to completely fuse before returning to action.

And he has revealed he is likely to wear the added protection, similarly to Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech.

"The doctor and chairman are seeking advice and we are in the process of having something made," he said on Sky Sports' The Debate.

"I think it would be the sensible thing to do.

"When it does heal, and it will heal, I think the added protection will give my family piece of mind."

Mason admits the last couple of months have been difficult in his recovery after missing the start of the Championship season.

"Physically I am fine but my skull still needs to heal a little bit, it's not fully fused together yet," he added

"It's been hard training on my own every day, away from the team but the end goal is getting back out there.

"The next step will be joining in with the boys, jumping for headers and being involved in that contact training.

"I wouldn't put myself in a position that could be dangerous.

"When I am out there I will be 100 percent confident I am ready."
